Putting wheel drive back together....

Had a hub seal leak on the rear axle at the wheel drive. Dissasembled and ready to put back together. There is no gasket between the backing plate and axle. Instruction manual says to "coat sealing surface with sealing compound". Any suggestions on what sealing compound they recommend?

BTW, real fun job, not!

Use Permatex aviation sealant or Anerobic sealer.
