What is the little tag next to driver side headlight?

I don't have a pic handy, but have seen them with blue dots or something on them. There was one on my truck but it had been painted over.
Tag was bolted on with 2 bolts. Is it a military thing, or just a civilian registration tag?
Debating whether I want to put it back on for "character".

Smog if I remember right? Mine was purple.
And if you don't put it back there will be one cold spot on your feet come snow.

One cold spot? Heck my feet are one big cold spot in winter!
I'll probably just put a couple bolts with rubber washers in the holes.
I cleaned the old paint off and there is no colored dot on mine. It's double sided too. I could put a smiley face sticker or something on there. With the German/French writing it would really make people wonder. Or better yet a bio-hazard or skull and cross-bones. It would drive the Greenies nuts.
Ah, I'll just stick with the bolts in the holes.

I left mine on. Soon it will be the only thing 'stock' on the truck besides the shape of the pinz.

I don't remember where I got this...I think it was on one of the forums or Scott at E.I. told me.
The tag is a service tag, shows what next service is due (military)

The tag on my machine says "Letzte Abschatzung". There is another line underneath which is obscured.
My daughter-in-law teaches German. She says Abschatzung is estimate or valuation or assessment (Schatz means treasure) and Letzte is last or final or most recent. So "Last Valuation" or Final Assessment" would be a possibility ??
She puts an umlaut above the "a" in abschatzung. Sadly, I've none in stock. I recall there is an umlaut stockist somewhere in the States. Anyone got his contact details ?? Willing to buy a bubble pack of 12 !

Final Assessment would be correct.

If I remember correctly there was a little date stamp on it- and "Letzte Abschaetzung" in this case refers to Last Evaluation as in the last time it was evaluated in the fleet maintenance schedule.
A US umlaut supplier would be appreciated- then I could get rid of the extra vowel in my last name
