Gents,

What are the most important upgrades you would do to a stock truck ? What I mean is not asthetics but mechanical. What would do you replace right away ? A list would be good.

Here's the twist, this truck may travel from North to South of Africa. The trails are herendous but a lot of dirt roads as well. When you are 2 days aways from any human being and lions and hyenas are your only companion, I'd want to make sure that nothing mechanical goes wrong with it. This is a question a freind of mine from Africa has asked. He's also looking into the pinz. I'd appreciate a list.

Pertronix Ignitor to eliminate the points on the distribution.

Be sure the rubber boots are in good shape to avoid dust from coming in.

That will be my mechanical improvement suggestions since the rest will be considered cosmetics.

I did change the distributor to civilian to save on cables and spark plugs but it is something I would not recommend due to the fact that you may be doing some extreme off roading.

May be a snorkel.

Pertronix would be my first choice too IF you were to be in civilization. But for an African trip, you need to keep things as simple as possible... points are maintainable, if the Pertronix dies, you're dead without a replacement. Install a civilian coil, plugs and cables , for the same reason. People complain enough about getting military parts in the US.. think what it would be like in Africa
Tires are your next improvement... if in Africa, use what the locals use, and what is readily available.

If in the US, definately Pertronix, and any tires other than Maloyas

Upgraded coil and replacement of all carb linkage end links with new ones (or carry spares of both)

I'd leave it bone stock and carry spares. I think parts of Africa are still using the Pinz. as I believe Scott just filled an order from Africa? Stock parts there maybe easier to get than aftermarket.

Of corse I would prep it for a long trip.

The best advise is to get a truck first
Then you see what it needs, and what you want to add to make it a little more civilized.
I've seen too many people buy a Pinz, and had bought anything and everything someone mention with no clue to what can, or should be done with them... something like a rabid dog in a hydrant factory.
