Sorry but conversational German is long out of date, so could someone help me with a translation of the following (which I will write in capitals): WERKINSTAND - SETZUNG DURCHGEFAHRT H. INST WERK 800 JULICH DATUM 02 96 Thank you friends, I will explain that I am trying to find the date of maufacture of my Unimog 1300L It has a VIN number and several other numbers but this is the only plate with a date. (United Kingdom registration document logs it as first registered in UK in 2002, built in 1986 unconfirmed)

There are no manufacturing date on the SBU's.
You'll need to have the VIN to submit to a Mercedes dealer to find manufacturing date, and a data card for the options.

WERKINSTAND - SETZUNG DURCHGEFAHRT H. INST WERK 800 JULICH DATUM 02 96
WERKINSTAND - SETZUNG DURCHGEFAHRT
=> means: refurbished by
H. INST WERK 800 JULICH
=> (H) stands for Heer = shortcut for Bundesheer (army)
translation: Army refurbishing center in the town of Jülich
DATUM 02 96
=> Date february 1996 (02 96)
Note: On older UNIMOG the VIN Number can be found on the frame next to the front tire (between door frame and tire) on the passenger side
regards,
Jacques

Thank you Jaques, that helps a lot, if Bundesheer refurbishing centres are anything like the ones the British Army used to have, then the whole truck will have been pulled apart and all the mechanical parts renewed up to manufacturers specifications. It is nice to know that although it is old it has had a big refurb even if it was 14 years ago. (It came out of military service in 2002)
