In these roll-over or nearly roll-over situations I do wonder if that extra 8 inches on the TD makes all the difference between right side up, or upside down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEd3EblBMRs

The 8" in the wheelbase smooths out the ride. The actual vehicle width is the same, but the track is wider...that helps the side stability.... But nothing can overcome dumb drivers, or bad driving habits.
Landrover originally increased the wb from 88" to 90" on the very first coiled spring LR, but they found out they had some problems , and increased it to 94" (nominal), and it has been there every since, and they are still call "90"s. At certain wheelbases, some suspension will cause a vehicle to "porpoise". That is why some vehicles will have their wheelbase lengthen slightly ( beside needing more physical room for a larger/different engine or trans)
