I wanted to get input for tires for my 712M. I have the factory wheels and currently have Yokohama Geolander AT 265 /75R16 on the truck, (they were on it when I bought it). I live in Colorado and off road local trails as well as trips to Moab, Utah so the trails are a little bit of everything. What tires does everyone like? I was looking at the Yokohama Geolander MT plus in the same size but they are directional.

I have BFG MT's 255/85-16 that were on there from initial purchase. They seem to hold up well (4 years and only down to 50%). Several trips from Denver to Seattle and Seattle to San Diego.
They seem to work well on everything but sand but the pinz doesn't have the power for sand anyway.

Interco just plain indestructable, I should know.

I switched to Mickey Thompson MTZ's as the intercos got hard to find around here when I needed new tires. Now both my 710 265/75 and my 712 285/75 on widened rims have the Mickey's. I have ruined a couple of Mickeys but that was in some pretty nasty terrain and the tire shop replaced them without question.

My 710M has BFG M/T 285/75R16's on stock rims from the previous owner. I was hoping to lower the overall height of the truck a little bit to better fit into a residential garage--I'm rubbing against the header a little bit pulling into the garage and I'm getting tired of loading a couple hundred pounds of gear in the back each time I pull in. After doing some math I think I can lower the overall height by about 0.6" with some 265/75R16 tires. What would everyone's recomendation be in terms of tires to lower overall height between 0.5" and 1.0"? Thanks.

Re my original post, have found that the 265/75R16 BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A® KM2 are a tad smaller than the original Maloyas. However, they have a very soft sidewall, already blew one (fortunately, they sell them with insurance here, which I luckily bought, so they replaced the tire)

In recent history ( 10 years or so), there hasn't been an " equal" to the diameter of the 245 Maloyas, and though many didn't like it or believe it, 235-85 x 16 tires are generally the closest to the original Maloyas (each tire manu will be different).
In the US, the "need" for a faster highway speed as lead to larger tires on Pinzes. 265-75 is a mide increase on a 710, where the 255-85 ( or 285-75, same basic diameter) do well on the 712.

To figure the "nominal" tire size from metric to imperial, the first number is tread width ( 255mm = 10.04". 2.54mm = 1" ). Second number is the the sidewall ratio to tire width ( 85% or 216.74mm, or 8.51"). Last is the rim size.
So, 255-85-16 is 2x 8.51" (17.2") + 16" = 33.2" which is what is in many manufacturer's specs.
285-75-16 is 285 / 25.4 = 11.22" ( tread width) times 75% sidewall ratio = 8.42" x 2 = 16.84" + 16 (for rim) = 32.84" overall height, which is a little smaller than the typical 33.3" published diameter. But remember, these are nominal dimensions and a manufacturer will give a tire a "common" callout size to be able to market a tire. Also a manufacturer's charts list tires for specific width rim and tread depth, which also play into the rolling diameter of a tire.

Again, these are generalities for tires and manufacturers play liberties with the sizing

What is the largest tire size anyone is running on a 712? I know of one fellow here in Florida that has 33x10.5 Boggers on his 712.
Anyone try 34x10.5's?

34x10.5 fit perfectly well to the Pinzgauer. I use tires with a
slightly larger diameter and a bit wider on my 712.

I would translate the (measured) tire size as a 34.5x11.0-16.
They do rub occasionally on the screw head that holds the fuel tank
splash guard in place but really nothing to worry about.

Just got these installed.... They were VERY difficult to find in the Northeast but I hear that they are more available in the Western US. Interco TRXUS Swampers. E Rated 33 x 12.5 x 17R Even though they are SUPER aggressive, they are IMO, very quiet.

The rims are also the heavy (4,500 lb rated) that came with it as well as a spare set that are also being powder coated with a flat black.

I have been trying to find these out here (in the west). No one has any. I contacted Interco back in April, here is what they told me:

"A factory in Ohio by the name of Denman Tire Corporation has shut down and Denman was a major supplier of some of our tires. Denman also manufactured other tires of various brands that will also be affected. We anticipated something like this could happen someday so we diversify our production. It takes time to move equipment out of one factory to another but we have already started the process. We will experience shortages of some sizes and types but this will be temporary.

This factory has been caught up in the difficult economic situation the country is experiencing but everything at Interco is OK."

So I am waiting for them to find another manufacturer to produce their tires.
