My 82 712m has a occasional problem of jumping out of second gear when I take off from a dead start. Is this a syncronizer problem or possibly a bent shifting fork. How difficult is it to pull the transmission on my Pinz. Have any of you guys experienced this on your Pinz's. Thanks for any input on this .

Have experienced the same problem, seems to have been primarily an operator error in my case compounded by improper adjustment. Seems that the only time I regularly have the problem is after waiting at a light and when hurriedly putting it into second to leave the light I don’t seem to move the lever as far forward as I should. Upon examination of the shift linkage I found I could readjust it so I am getting full engagement in 2nd and 4th without the shifter knob being as close to the dash. Very rarely have the problem of jumping out of 2nd gear now. The linkage is now adjusted with in factory specification per the operators manual “adjusting the change speed gearbox” pages 160-164. Per Jim L.’s recommendation thanks Jim.

I have the same problem with my 72 710m. I figured driver error. Now that I'm conscious of it, never happens.

Thanks guys, i will take a look at it my next weekend off and see if it looks out of adjustment.

Please realize that there is an acceptable range of adjustment. For those of us that sit further back the proper adjustment is different than what maybe optimal for a driver that sits further forward. In other words check not only that it is within specification, but is in the best part of the adjustment range for you.

Guys
If after satisfactory adjustment you still have 2nd jump out, grasp the drive flange at the back of the box and try the end float.
There should be none!--mainshaft end float and gear synchro pack end movement will cause jump out--not to mention sliding dog wear.
