We live in a unban setting. It's a nice neighborhood, nicer than some, not as nice as others...you know the drill.
I keep the Pinz covered (see previous posts about finding a cover) as the sun is pretty brutal here in the summer time and if the sides are rolled up, it keeps the interior a bit cleaner. So it's covered, parked on the street and pretty much not in anyone's way.
Except for one neighbor....
After 3+ years of Pinzgauer ownership, one of our neighbors has started complaining to the police about that horrible truck parked on the street. Apparently the police have knocked on our front door a couple of times to deliver the bad news / complaint. Now if any of your guys know my wife, she's sort of luke warm on the whole Pinzgauer thing anyway but even she was some what incredulous when the cops mentioned the neighbor's complaint.
They won't say who it is and they agreed that I'm perfectly legal with it parked where it is. They indicated to my wife that perhaps I should just move it every so often so that there's no confusion about it being an "abandoned" car. My wife tells the police on the most recent visit that I've put a piece of tape on the curb and every few days, I just roll it forward or backwards to change its location.
"Is that good enough?" she asks the officer. He just smiled and indicated that we're legal in the first place but if might get the neighbor to focus on some other more signifigant issue in their life.
Weird hu?

Maybe that neighbor used to work for the Wis. DOT in a previous life...

No Tex, its not weird at all just part of the human condition and the very reason that I would not live in a community where houses are adjacent to one another. You can bet your bottom dollar that this anonomous complainer is a woman..who dosent work...and keeps a nice manicured lawn and hates the idea of a military vehicle blocking her view so she can keep tabs on the goings on of the rest of the community. People are funny...they should be thankful to have good neighbors...and not live next to a house of outlaw bikers or a drug den..but instead complain about harmless things that have NO bearing on them or the goodness of a neighborhood. If I were in your shoes I would write a public letter stating the very things I mentioned and ask that if the person has a problem with the Pinz to stop calling the police and to come over and discuss the matter over a cup of coffee. Then GOD forbid when the next Flood, hurricane, twister, earthquake etc...happens and the pinz is the only vehicle capable of climbing out of the crap to safe ground hits...give her a guarranteed seat in the back if she just stops the B.S.

Not odd at all. Most urban areas in Cal have laws regarding vehicles not being moved for 3 days..... it keeps vehicles from being "stored" in front of someone else's house or being abandoned, and no way to have them "legally" moved.
In the cases of HOA's, I do have a service ( for a
small fee) to rent the Vampire with the antenna up with a humming globe on top in front of your house.... when the neighbors complain, just explain to them that it was left by some gentlemen in dark suits and glasses, that had reports of some suspicious activities.... they'll forget all about you and start pointing fingers at each other

Me too, but on 102 acres. And it
still isn't big enough.
I once heard a guy tell me that he planned to "move to F.U., Michigan - population 1 (with his middle finger in the air)". I kind of liked the mental image...

When I first bought my Mog it was painted camo. While I was working on it, taking it apart to get it painted, it was in my yard with a tarp over it and still I was ticketed by the SDPD for an abandoned vehicle. Gotta love CA and neighbors.
After I got it painted, I was told by one of my 'good' neighbors that several were taking up a collection to get my truck painted. Now...where were they when the bill for the paint came rolling in...nowhere but behind their doors looking out. I was the guy that helped them haul lumber and trees for their houses...yes, I did charge for gas, but only for some.
When the pinz arrived after the Mog had been sold, it seemed to get better as the pinz was not so big. Some said it was cute.
I also got warned by SDPD that 'For Sale' signs were not allowed in residential areas. Holy crap, couldn't win for nothin'.

Living Here in the lovely San Francisco Bay area I experienced the same neighbor and HOA Rules. Had no less than seven visits from Police. I think I finally figured out who it was after the home owner association asked if the Pinz would float and propel itself in water (read No boats allowed in front of or in driveways).
Luckily the wife in on the homeowners board and the management company loves her. We foiund a new tasks for nosey problem neighbor. Something about fixing his fence.
Long LIve tghe PINZ!

We have a friend, a single mom with a young daugher who thought she was being stalked -- some guy would park across the street from her house and sit there for hours -- So I agreed to park my 712W in the driveway of her house for a couple of weeks. Every day or two I'd swap it over to the other side of the drive, turn it around, etc. so it looked active. Nothing ever happened, but she said she felt safer with the appearance and idea that someone else was there with them.

This is a good reason why I live outside city limits. Though most of the towns around me in these parts of Texas would not care if I had my pinz parked out in the street.

Like I stated in a recent post. Even the county where I have my shop has openely stated that Pinzgauers are ugly, offensive vehicles especially the camo ones and have no place in a civilzed society like Golden Colorado.
For that reason I have to stored them in a rented high fenced lot out of sight!
I sometimes wonder what the reaction would be when these ponces get snowed in at their glass palace called the Taj Majal and they have to be evacuated in Mil trucks!

So I drop an email to the president of our home owners association and she responded with her thoughts on why this appears to be a problem for one of the neighbors.
http://library.municode.com/index.aspx? ... e=TexasSec. 26-93. -
Parking in excess of twenty-four hours.
It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly leave parked or standing in any public street, alley or other public place any vehicle for a longer continuous period of time than 24 hours.
(Ord. No. 07-464, ยง 7(Exh. B), 4-11-07)
Since Braes Boulevard is a main thoroughfare for the neighborhood, the Pinzgauer's most common location for parking is an obstacle and annoys residents. When it is covered, it gives the impression that it has or will remain in the location for more than 24 hours which is against city ordinance and enforceable by HPD.
If I remove the cover, it doesn't look "stored". I can put it in the driveway but the anarchist in me doesn't like that approach.
