Loctite on axle housings

This issue has come and gone over the years and now it's permanent. BTW done the usual, alignment, switched tires, centered steering gear...This is what I found today,I assume I have a bent-failing axle housing. The crack is where the "locating bolt" goes thru. Anyone experience this before?

The header will make sense a few lines down!

Those type cracks are usually from lifting a wheel and coming back down while under power and the diff is lock, all the torque runs to the back to that bolt.... many times the section breaks out and you have a "3 of 5 legged lame dog" (depending whether it's a 710 or 12  )

Thanks Dave for your info. I tend to be "cautious" with my truck, but once in a while. ... Good thing I have a spare running gear down South! 8) This is the first real issue ever for any of the Pinz's I've owned,It's my turn! :x

Yeah Mark, with the articulation of the Pinz.... or lack of :D ,it is easy to lift a wheel and when it comes back down, the shock feeds back to twist the outer axle and the locating bolt, that is why it is so important to make sure the pinch bolts are properly torqued ( and locktite).... one of the big advantage of the diesel in the Pinz is it's ability to pop along at lower rpms and keep all 4 on the ground longer :D

I have seen a few pinzgauers with this problem over here.

One of them was mine. The left Half axle started to crack just like
yours and the right one deformed the hole in the
axle tube that comes out of the differential housing.

The reason why this happened with my pinzgauer was because
both front wheel drives weren't glued on
with loctite. The centering bolt is not ment to take the stress.

Now I have repaired and mounted everything properly with loctite.
No Problems since then Even with a 220 hp engine under heavy offroad and racing conditions.

Thanks Richard,That is what we found. Also I believe a double ck on everyones' Pinzies pinch bolts would also be a good idea.

I did good huh?

I repositioned my axle housing so that the spring is straight up and down, tightened the pinch bolts as tight as my impact would go,(each bam, bam, bam has an incremental value ya know) took it for a drive. I've been dealing with this for over a year and the strange thing is it would come and go. Well all is good with the family! Thanks for everyones input!
