Does anyone know the weight distribution of a 710M? About how much of the total weight of the vehicle is on the front axles vs the rear.

Can't comment on a 710m but I can tell you that unladen the 710k is pretty much balanced 50 / 50. My little party piece is driving front left and rear right tyres up my inspection ramps and the rocking the truck from one side to the other with one hand. Now I have a bit of stuff in the back of my 710K it's weight is more to the back.

I'm not sure but wouldn't they have to be well balanced since they were designed to be slung under helicopters and air dropped from cargo planes?!

Not necessarily. Most HMMWV's are very nose heavy.

What I've found out by trial and error is it has to be nearly 50/50 like ScottishPinz says his K is. I know I loaded my 710M too far forward the first time I loaded it then too far back the second time. After a couple adjustments this weekend it is looking like I need to load it almost directly above the trailer axles. Need to get a scale and find out for sure.

Lets extend this to a 712. Is it the exact center (8.5 ft) or so?

Hi Fleg,

I have a booklet that was produced by SDP in Australia in about 1985 as a promotion document for the 2.7 litre version that was sold here in OZ.
On page 60 weights for the 710M are:

Curb Mass
Front axle 1100 Kg Rear axle 860 Kg

Total 1960 Kg

Gross Vehicle Mass
Front axle 1550 Kg Rear axle 1550 Kg

Total 3100 Kg

710K as follows;

Curb Mass
Front axle 1130 Kg Rear axle 930 Kg

Total 2060 Kg

Gross Vehicle Mass
Front axle 1550 Kg Rear axle 1550 Kg

Total 3100 Kg

712M as follows;

Curb Mass
Front axle 1060 Kg Rear axles 635 Kg each

Total 2330 Kg

Gross Vehicle Mass
Front axle 1450 Kg Rear axles 1300 Kg each

Total 4050 Kg

712K as follows;

Curb Mass
Front axle 1080 Kg Rear axles 740 Kg each

Total 2560 Kg

Gross Vehicle Mass
Front axle 1450 Kg Rear axles 1300 Kg each

Total 4050 Kg

I hope this helps in this matter as I would assume the difference in the weight between the 2.5 and 2.7 litre motors to be similar.

So with an extra 240 Kg in the back of a 710M it would be equal front to back :D

Cheers

Peter
