hole in axle boot-OK to drive ?

Newbie 712 owner here, noticing that the yellow axle boot on my rear right axle is worn through. Am I going to damage anything by driving with it in this condition? just road driving, freeway speeds (well, 50-55- maybe freeway speeds in most states, but it's school zone speed here in so. cal)
Are the split boots acceptable for replacement? seems like an easy fix, but the easy way rarely produces the best results....
only had it a week, and all the stories of being stopped on the street are all true. I think I've coined a new term for the Pinzgauer.. it's an F.U.V.
