Pinzgauer/ham radio operators

Post by totaljoint »

Since off/back roading in the Cascades involves deep ravines/mountains and trees, I have yet to find a two way radio which will keep me in touch with the outside world.

Recently I've found out about no shortage of repeaters on our mountain tops, and how to access them from just about anywhere to reach just about anyhwhere, so my sons and I have bought some ham handheld dual band (2m) radios (Yaesu VX 6-R). We have to get our basic licenses to access the repeaters and are studying for that now.

Our 712 with Andre's cage is a wonderful antenna mount for a mobile base.
Any others have experience with ham and Pinzgauer? Reccomendations for antennas or common RF wavelengths used?
Thanks, Ed
