Smart seats - airbag question

Have bought a pair of Smart seats off eBay (£50) and have found some good ideas on how to get them to fit (http://pinzforum.kiruna.de/viewtopic.php?t=1928) although whether I'll have the expertise, who knows?

The seats have a panel on the side saying "SRS Airbag" and there is a connector underneath. Can I:

a) Connect this to some aftermarket control box to give me some form of protection in the event of a side impact

or

b) Set them off so they don't suddenly explode on me during some vigorous off-roading etc. (I'll put this on YouTube!)

If you don't connect them to anything then they can't go off. If you deploy them while still inside the seat then they will rip the side of the seat off.

I'd still feel a bit worried having a live airbag in the car but to answer my own thread:

shows how to remove them

It's just a gas generator. If you really want to be safe, you can short the leads together of the connector and be done with it instead of having to remove it.

Smart seats fitted

Finally got the seats fitted this evening (ending up in the dark by torchlight!). Certainly a vast improvement on the stock items and although they need a little fettling to stop the rattles, very pleased with my progress so far.

Used a wing shaped piece of aluminium chequer plate (3mm thick, but only because I didn't have anything thicker), bolted to each side of the seat rail (not that easy as if the bolts are too long, you can't slide the seat back and forward) with the pointed end bolted to the original mounting point, so the seats still come out with 1 bolt each.

Will post some pictures when it's light enough to take some!
