"Poo-pooing" the idea of electric powered cars is sooooo 1925! The new battery/motor technology is quite impressive really. Check it out, you'll be surprised at how powerful and reliable it is.
But then again, most people can't see past golf carts and will never take the new electric vehicles seriously.

I would hardly call my statement "poo-pooing" on electric cars...in the ''90s, I had a "portable" electric maintenance cart made for my service work in shopping malls ( with an on-board a 2300 (continuous) watt invertor that ran everything up to a 120a mig welder), that "traveled" on an extending rear bumper on my service truck ( a custom designed F-700).
In the late '90s, I installed a SW8000w 220v invertor backup system at my shop ( basically a "3" source system, grid, solar and backup generator)... major health issues curtailed a lot of my work and completion of the system, and one at my house ( I still have a SW4000w invertor, new in the box).
I also drive a Highlander Hybrid, which would better serve me if it was PHEV. With my typical driving, I would be 100% electric for 5 day a week. I have looked at NEVs ( neighborhood electric vehicles), but with any vehicle that has special refueling requirements (electric, propane, hydrogen....), you must plan any "extended" trips around refueling. A guy that I know converted a Mog to propane is very happy with the way it perform, but has to carry lots of spare propane tanks, because the off road mileage varies so much, and thinks now that dual fuel would have been best.

What you call 'poo-pooing' is an antidotal comment to "what if".... where are you going to get that 5kw you needed to get home after that last unexpected off-road maneuver drained your batteries?

Electric may be fun but a PHEV will get you home

Dave what does PHEV stand for? By the way don't think the pinz in the video is electric look at the tail pipe blowing smoke. I personally hate hybrids just when they start to pay back the fucker' brakes down three days in the shop is about the cost of new vehicle!

I like my HH.. at the time I purchased it, the only other hybrid wagon type was the Escape. Grant it, it isn't anywhere as ecomonicial as any of the commuter type, it does carry a fair amount of stuff and rated to tow 3500 lbs. I've towed my Mighty Mite and Haffy behind it (at different times), and the only thing I noticed was the mileage dropped to just over 20 mpg...

I couldn't pass up buying it, for a short time, there was a factory rebate and the dealer lopped off quite a bit.... I haven't seen anything like it since from Toyota. Also got a B to B factory warranty for under $1000 for 84 months... Chevy offered a shorter with less coverage on my Silverado for well over $2k

Unfortunately, I still haven't found a PHEV for the HH.

but it's a bit misleading. I'd love an electric Pinz - I have no particular fondness for the engine - but don't think the technology is yet there to make it a practical proposition regarding range/recharging. I wonder if having a small, efficient diesel generator running almost continuously would improve things. You could drive all day and the batteries could recharge off the generator overnight

You're not familar with with US National Park laws to protect nature's experience for all... ... beside allowing people to know that when a tree falls in the forest, that it does make a sound, but also comfirm that the smell was a bear's fart ..... not the person riding next to you.
