Yeah, yeah, so I bought one of the 718's from the gov't. I am not willing to buy new doors or a windshield frame due to the outlandish prices and the fact that I don't care if the parts are original to the truck (I knew this long before I bought the truck), so it is either fabricate them myself, or find an alternative. From what I have read, I am pretty sure that the body is wider on the diesel, so the windshield frame would be wider, so I suspect that I will have to fabricate that. I know the doors have different handles, ect, but they look like they are similar dementions to the gas versions. I have no way of knowing the dimentions since I don't have a gas door to try, or the 718 in my hands to check.

Anyone have any insite on this? Any help would be appreciated.

not sure which if any of the gasser parts will or can be made to interchange with the diesels. I would look at the "M" series truck windshields if you decide to fab one up. they are flat and have the ability to open for better air flow. Should be able to adapt any flat windshield to truck with little troubles. With the simplicity in design of these trucks and a little imagination fabbing up missing body parts should be a breeze, unless you have to pay a shop.

When I looked at those, I thought, "wow, what a perfect job for Andre at Fat Fabrications... doors, windshield frame, rear frame etc".

None of the gas body parts fit without major modifications. You will have to either dig deep into your wallet or make them

Doors are the same overall shape, the hinges are in different places, handles,latches and striker are different.
The body of the TDs are the same width,BUT the windshield frame is narrower and shorter than the gasser's, due to a difference in the front cowl, and wipers in the body...hinging is completely different. But still nothing some one can't fab up.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am new to the Pinz world, but have owned a couple of C303's, half a dozen G wagens, and 25 or so mogs over the past 10 years. I have no problem fabricating stuff (I have fabricated structural steel and sheetmetal on all kinds of 4x4's, cars, ect for most of my life), but having some doors to start with and modifying them is a lot easier than starting from scratch. Good to know that the windshield frame is lots different so I don't throw my cash away trying to modify a gasser one, those aren't that hard to build anyway since it is a flat windshield vehicle.

I will be sure to post some pictures and report on how it runs out once the EUC clears and I drag it back home.

Almost anything is doable, with patience

If you need any detailed photographs or dimensions let me know as I got some TD doors on the shelf that I can run a tape measue over any time

door handles (inside and out) and locks can be got off ebay as they are G Wagen (but much cheaper if listed for a T1 van than G Wagen and even worse Pinzgauer)

Whereas the doors between the gasers and TDs could be swapped (same shape), the components of the doors cannot. Door uppers and lowers cannot be swapped, Locks are like fitting late LR Defender hardtop (with rollup windows) locks and handles to an early Series truck ( actually, I'd think it would be easier to fit LR slam locks to a 710/12's door)

If you have your LW, those locks are closer to the 710's, still bulkier and more complicated the the 710/12's.... bet you thought you would never have heard of a LR part refered to as "complicated".

I know there is major differences in the mechanisms but I seen weirder things done. Saw a Defender bulkhead cut down and converted into a Lightweight bulkhead

I don't like to say anything is impossible as it may take longer and cost more money but it's ok if you enjoy the challenge. So I am curious what this influx of Td's will have on:

- new ideas
- the increased sales of duct tape

it is good to be cautious as the bodywork is the smallest concern on a Td

Yeah Mike, I always said you can do anything if you throw enough money at it.

Unforunately, it's almost always politicians and government employees that take it to heart... it's not them paying for it!

But for us simplier folks, we usually have learned to not reinvent the wheel.
