Cruz, there are betteer choices for Ham radio anyway, the Shakespeare antennas SFB3512/VRC 30-512 MHz with no tuner needed show up at the military vehical meets from time to time for about $100.

i was going to get it for a buddy that has a hummer!!, the antenna you are talking about is the one that would replace the internals of one of my original antennas right?

For a hand held unit, I've been pretty happy with my Yaesu VX-6R.

what swap meet is that? the one i have found them at is on the second Sunday http://scmvcc.0catch.com/ .
with the IC-7000 I'd be very tempted to go with a screwdriver.

The basic license, "Technician" is not that hard to get
Went to "hamtestonline.com" to study up.
It will give you all the actual questions and answers for the test.

Cruz I responded to this in a PM, if others are interested in amateur (Ham) radio and trail comunications lets start a new thread. Maybe mobile vs HT or APRS for offroad etc.
