Decided to order a carb rebuild kit from E.I. and wanted to know if anyone has used one of those cheap ultrasonic cleaning units that harbour freight sells for 40 bucks or so. I know the professional grade ones do a great job but was wondering if anyone has used a home unit with good results or if its a waste of money...cheers!

I have been temped by the HF units also, but have been burned on a few things purchased there. So I have been looking for a "used" unit but so far no luck.

Vince this is exactly the video that I saw that made me think the ultrasonic cleaning would be nice to do...a professional unit costs hundreds and for a few carbs would not be worth the price but the harbour freight unit is 75 bucks and may be worth the investment if it works as described...just dont know anyone that can testify to it.

I have been using the Harbor Freight heavy duty model of the ultrasonic cleaner now for 5 years. Think I paid about $50.00 for it. I have used it to clean shower heads, kids dental retainers, my stainless steel watch band, combs, rings and jewelry, and various an other sundry stuff. My son once dumped a load of coins in it, said they were dirty but wouldn't tell me why. They came out clean, but the water was awful.
Anything made of hard material with nooks and crannies that accumulates gunk seems to work well. With 4 kids in the family using the dental retainers, it gets used probably 2-3 times/week just set the timer for about 15 minutes. (Of course we change the water and soap between uses!)
Never tried a carburetor however.

Never had a failure, works very well and reliably. This is one HF electronic thing I bought that seems to be well built!

Awe Ed....you teased me.. I read your whole post about all the things that you cleaned waiting for the best part about dumping the pinz carbs in there and they came out like new...and then came to the end...WHAT??? NO PINZ CARBS????....LOL...Darn
