Oregon by time-lapse

Post by totaljoint »

I follow a northwest overlanding site which posted this link to some
impressive time lapse photography taken in various areas of Oregon.
There are also links to the Grand Canyon and Iceland.

Thought I'd share it for those with a similar out-door adventure spirit!

Saw that on the Northwest site. Sent it to my friend in Portland. It is fantastic.

Anyone know how he pans and zooms the camera while it's on time lapse?

Some of those shots were panned in post, much like zooming in on a photo. The actual moving shots were done with a motion control slider/dolly system which takes some training and practice, but its not overly complex. You can program them to move, for example, 6 feet over 8 hours if needed. It's nothing new actually, but just recently became very portable and affordable.

I know this guy (Tom) who is another filmmaker that specializes in high-end time-lapse material. He is releasing a BluRay of his work soon and will likely screen it around LA somewhere soon as well. Tom is at the bleeding edge of time-lapse tech. and he's been working on this SW USA project for a couple years straight. Several of these shots are also slow-motion done on a high-rez digital cinema camera. He also used boats and a car for a few time-lapse shots; not easy. Check this trailer out! Make sure "HD" is on and make it full screen.
