Engine dies when out of gear & slowing down

Hey guys

I just had my mechanic go through and re-program my fuel system, the settings in it before didn't make any sense.... The timing went up, then down...then back up...then the same...down....up 2x... It was all very odd.

Anyway, he messed with it and set it so that it drives much, much better (no Dyno, just experimenting mostly), except for one major issue.... If I'm at speed and take it out of gear so that I can break and come to a stop...my rpms slowly drop down to about 1000, then slowly down to 0. Almost every time I need to take it out to downshift basically- if I put it in N so that I can slow and make a turn...it dies. It will start right back up, or even start itself if I just put it in gear and keep going...but I need to fix this.

Any ideas??

Thank you Jim,
How do I go about doing that exactly?

If this helps at all- I have found that if I give it a tiny bit of gas before I start breaking (to slow the RPM drop), it doesn't die....as much

To quote one of jims past posts concerning vacume leaks

What is your EFI system using for Idle air control? perhaps it's sticking?

Problem solved! it wasn't a vacuum leak after all (at least I don't think so). Just poor fuel \ timing numbers! Thanks for everyones help!
