Hey Guys...
What is this exactly?

On the truck I am buying (pick it up tomorrow!!), this plate/vent cover is slightly damaged in the upper rear corner. What is it and is the cover easy to find/replace?

the K series have a heater in that location. The space serves as a vent for said heater. The M series have the panel you posted as there is no heater. Pretty easy to get though i would make something for the price.

The truck I bought/buying has the gas heater right behind the drivers seat...makes sense now.

Well, hold up a sec... if the truck has a heater, it should have the vented version of that plate, unless its some sort of aftermarket install. Just make sure you get the right plate if you decide to replace it.

I have a heater, my vent is a sealed cover.
It all depends on where your heater gets it's cold air from....outside (cover will be vented and the heater intake pipe will be just inside the vents) or re-circulated inside air (cover will be closed, intake pipe will be turned away from the plate).
With recirculated air, there is less chance of sucking in exhaust fumes when stopped, since it's on the same side of the truck as the stock exhaust. Of course, if it does suck in fumes anyway, you'll die faster.

Watch out for that sucking, better to recirculate.

My vent works & I open it when using the heater. The vent leaks cold air even when closed while driving my truck. Maybe that is why some are sealed up? :?:
