While fully loaded with home articles (we're moving), I drove my 712m down a decently crowded main artery in Northern Virginia. Its 2-3 lanes and stop and go traffic due to traffic lights.

In my normal 1 - 2 shift, I realized the gas pedal would not return to its highest point as i depressed the clutch. The engine RPMs soared. I shifted quickly and landed in 2nd accelerating at a steady pace. The gas pedal would push about 25% further to the floor, but when i let up, it would not return. As my slow beast accelerated, it eventually caught up with the mass of traffic at the next red traffic light.

I can't push the clutch in or the engine soars, but i can brake so i slow down the best i can. the engine hesitated and started to die as i came closer to full braking. I eventually have to turn the engine off in the middle of traffic.

As the light turns green, i start the truck again and quickly let up into first, eventually pulling over to a safe place.

What did i find when i pulled the doghouse?

A piece of stick or other debris interfering with throttle cable deployment?

We are on the right track. Close enough in fact

The swivel bolt which holds the air intake onto the top of the carbs fell out of the eyelet. I must not have torqued it properly with the flat head screw driver. It fell out and down, lodging itself below the rear carb throttle arm. Scary indeed!

Wow! I was just putting mine back together a couple of days ago and that bolt caught my eye as a potential problem area. I installed a Nyloc nut to hopefully deal with the vibration but now after reading your post I'm ready to add a serrated washer too!

I removed mine. Don't think it's necessary to hold the intake plenum in place.

What you described happened to me on my trip home with the Pinz....my issue was a matter of complete inexperience however. I was playing with the throttle lock while on the highway, but I disengaged it eventually....or so I thought. I got off the highway and was coming to a stop sign on the ramp, but when I depressed the clutch the engine just went crazy! Scared the shite right out of me! I couldn't figure it out right away, so I did the same as you and shut the engine off. My buddy told me to check the lock, and sure enough, it was not completely released. Lesson learned!
