Morris has wisdom!

After messing around trying to find a rectangular vent for the door or front cab corner, I decided to go with Morris' solution which was the addition of butterfly vents added to the center tunnel area. This was easy and has provided considerably more air flow to the cab area. He built some duct work for inside the tunnel to deflect air into these vents and I may do that in time but it was so friggin' hot here today, this is all I did for now and the results were very good.
Here's a link to the photos of the project.

Dave,
Super looking job. You went one better and made two small holes rather than one large one.
Nice work.

Guys,
Did this increase cabin noise in your opinion?

Looks good, hope this modification won’t affect the factory warranty.

Very nice! Easy to install and easy access - great idea!
With what and how did you coat your brake handle? Mine could use refinishing.

I notice no increase in cabin sound. It's down low and creates no extra noise.
Checked with the factory and warranty is not effected as it is not visible from the outside.
Definitely an increase in air flow.

"Increased cabin noise"...are we now on the Lexus forum?

I noticed no additional noise which is to say, there was plenty of noise before I installed these so the difference is negligible if any.

Oh, that was cold!!
Yeah, I
KNOW there's plenty of noise to begin with. I just don't want any more. I noticed that a lot of the noise in my truck comes from the front edge of the doghouse cover where the gasket is somewhat eroded, right near that noisy fan. Tossing a map over it cuts that noise greatly. So I wondered whether holes further forward mattered similarly.

no discernable noise increase....
Are you sure this isn't the Lexus forum???????

Dave,
What is the vent size and diameter of the holes you cut? I may attack this project next weekend.

The vent that I used is 7.25" in diameter. Morris identifed a vendor on eBay with a stainless steel model and I went with that as a locally available aluminum vent seemed too flimsy.
I used a 3.5" hole saw and just drilled some small diameter pilot holes centered where the vents would be. Morris fabricated small ducts to channel more air to the vents. I'll do that later when I have time to mess with that. He can share images of those.
This is a pretty easy project, biggest hassle was the removal of the seats, doghouse and front grill so you can see what you're drilling into...before you drill into the wrong thing or in the wrong place. This is a good opportunity of course to clean up the cab of your Pinz and splash some Armor All on the doghouse while it's out. Maybe even lube some linkage while the engine is exposed. etc etc.

Great, thanks for all of the info. I'm in and out of the engine compartment often enough that pulling the seats and doghouse isn't a big deal (was in there just this weekend to move the fuel pump for my EFI). Looking forward to hacking into this project!
Thanks again.

Yeah, this is one of those measure twice and cut once kind of deals. Lots of looking, test placement and measuring before you fire up the drill and begin to void the warranty on your Pinzgauer!
