Come on...really. You honestly had no idea that there might be a problem with the truck you were selling? It really sucks that we can't just go back to the good'ol days and have a nice old fashioned beat down.....

For all those that don't think inspections are necessary.

Cheers,

Scott

Is that corrosion, rust, or gunk?

Hmmmm.. a couple minutes in the parts cleaner, a bit of fresh oil and a 1/2 lb of sawdust... good as new

 WOW, what a testament to the pinz. Some of the things I have seen these trucks have wrong with them and still keep on going is absolutely amazing.

What were the first outward signs that something was wrong?

Damn! I agree 100% on the beat down!

Hopefully that wasn't sold by a dealer.....cause you would get flamed for criticizing them.... 8)

Wow. I replace all of my gearbox fluids once a year! It comes out CLEAN. I wonder just how long that had gone?

From the looks and copious amounts of mud, I'm pretty sure the truck spent a lot of time in the mud and water. For those that like to play submarine commander with your trucks......change the oils/fluids immediately after.

Brian figured something was wrong when he popped the drain plug and started scraping out mud/gunk with a screw driver.

No it wasn't sold by a dealer it was bought by a dealer......+

Bottom line, we figured we were getting a parts truck based upon purchase price and our inspection, however it is noteworthy that it was a truck advertised and discussed on the boards as a "great deal".

Gone are the days where the available vehicles were pretty much in good shape as their hadn't been enough time on them to be destroyed. We have parted at least 6 trucks in the last year that were past the point of being able to cost effectively bring back to a serviceable level.

Cheers,

Scott

Looks like another victim of the Billy Bob syndrome- drive it until it breaks. What a shame.

This one maybe?

I didn't think there was any mud in Amarillo to begin with.

I have noticed that a certain couple of Pinzgauers in my town have drain plugs that are crusted over with mud and oil and have been like that for several years now. Year after year the owner just drives them, parks them, then drives them again. Obviously there has been no gearbox maintenance done whatsoever!
So I'm not surprised that his Pinzgauers are now running like they are both on their last legs!
I bet that his gearbox's internals look like that too. But then again, he is also the kind of guy that has the "drive it until breaks" mentality.
