Does any one know if this has been done or discussed?
I have a trashed 1999 bike with a perfect oil cooled engine from a BMW GS bike. Like 75hp
Maybe make an adapter and mounts and slap it in the back of a haffy? Electric fan cooling?

Makes me wonder. All that extra power.

It would seem that it would be a nice fit,HP would be there but torque may not. Engine rotation may be another issue..Funny you brought it up,a friend of mine says good used K75 motors are cheap,yes water cooled,but the radiators are small...

Keep in mind that the BMW engine in the NA Haflinger from the video is NOT a BWM motorcycle engine. It is from a BMW 700 automobile.

This is not to say that a bike motor could note be mated with a Haflinger transmission but the cooling issue is already addressed with the 700 car engine.

Hi every-one,
I have fitted a 1400 nissan motor in my "Hafie"with great success. A adaptor to the gearbox and it fit very nicely, with a radiator fitted at the back as well with a electric fan. Double the normal power, but need to be handled with care. Hafies in our country are scarce, know of about 15 that are still running good. A engine for it is unobtainable, and spares have to be imported and expensive with our currency rate. Therefor I am looking well after it!!!

Can your provide some photos of the conversion? How did you solve the starter/flyweel with ring gear issue as it mates with the standard transaxle bellhousing?

Firstly, a adaptor plate of about 0ne and a half inch, which accomodate the starter was made, as the starter could not fit into the bellhousing of the Hafie. Then 4x studs were fitted to the adaptorplate and then fitted to the bellhousing of the Hafie.( Original place ) After measurements taken, a pressureplate and clutchplate was made up and fitted. The ring-gear runs inside the adaptorplate and not in Hafie bellhousing. Soon as I know how to upload a picture, I will do so!!

My only concern with a bmw engine is the depth of the oil sump - it might hang down to much.

I've seen photos of a haffy with a moto guzzi engine that looked like a great fit - it even had 4 wheel steering.
