A search here turns up posts from people planning taking their Pinzgauers up the the Rubicon trail, and reports of a 710 on it years ago.
Has anyone actually taken a 712 on the Rubicon?
If so how did you fare?

I have not done it yet but people I know have and tolds me its no problem for the 712. I am heading up there early next year. You should join me! im taking the trailer as well.

Ya for sure..By early i mean as soon as the snow is gone. Have been wanting to do it for as long as i have had the pinz!

When you guys say no problem for the 712, would the 710 struggle?

Not sure how a 710 would do but it can be done!

Planning a Rubicon trip this summer with my 710m. Ive been through a few times with the rock crawlers and know the trail, but the Pinz is a different girl. Need to get the box and tank cages from Andre to offer some protection before a couple spring local trips and see what lines the Pinz is capable of. Tried to find some info on past Rubicon/pinz trips but not much. Anyone been through since this thread started?

Let me know when you are thinking of going, I've never done the Rubicon and would love to go.

Since they blew up Gatekeeper and tamed Big sluice, I don't think it would be too difficult for either. Definitely need protection for gas tank and oil pan though.
You'll be on 3 or 5 wheels a lot because of the articulation limits but people drag IFS vehicles through regularly.

If I go 5 wheels in my 710M I've done something horribly wrong...

Your parts retailers are standing by.....

Fuel Tank, Battery Box/Tool Box, Oil Pan, Tie Rods are the most common problem areas. No question it can be done and if done carefully/properly with little/no damage.

It's definitely not the preferred terrain for the Pinz.

If you get damaged beyond repair, Rod McClain a well known Unimog guy runs a Rubicon tow service with his Unimog out of South Lake.

keeping an eye on this thread. The SWPA has been talking about running this trail for a couple years. hard to get schedules to line up with all the other trips we make during the year. If you put a solid date on the calendar, post up as early as you can. Would love to push this trip with the group.

Im waiting on some of Andre's cages for the battery/storage boxes and one the stainless tank he built that I want to protect. I cant commit to a date until they have arrived. I have another rocky trail trip planned at the end of next month and crossing fingers they ship out soon.

most all of our AZ trucks are "protected". I am lucky enough to have one of CWR's armored tanks on my 712. With few exceptions the rest are using gas tank guards, battery-tool box, front and rear bumpers that Tim built for the trucks. Have not yet had any experience with Andre's guards but have seen some of his other work am sure it will be top notch.
