Tool Box Organization

Thought I'd share something I found for the tool box.

The box on my Pinz is big enough, but has it's drawbacks. The tools just pile up in it, and it is open to water/humidity. The one item I need seems to be on the bottom and the pile of tools slide out when the door is open. Sliding cargo have even popped open
some oil bottles, and rattle on rough roads (and yes, I hear it over the engine). Canvas rolls are nice, but not big enough nor waterproof.

I consider the original tools something of value, and only keep in the truck those that are specific for use on the trail. For general use I've replaced the common hand tools with Harbor Freight metric wrenches and sockets. No big $ loss if I lose or lend those.

French medical boxes http://store.colemans.com/cart/french-m ... -2421.html ($19.95) are steel, waterproof and fit in the Pinz tool box like a glove. Most I've ordered are in great condition, (though a couple have had damaged gaskets- Coleman's has replaced those readily, and even 3/8" replacement gasket material can be found here http://www.mcmaster.com/#epdm-rubber-bu ... ts/=k2xc4u). The lid is attached and makes for a clean surface out of the dirt to put tools/washers/nuts, etc.....

I took the "California Closets" approach to organization and used these to load up my hand tools:

Use one for some original tools, and brake adjustment:

Another for sockets/screwdrivers/allen wrenches etc..

And another for oil/fluids/fan belt and used to have a fuel pump and filters in there too:

All together they leave me with room for the jack and longer items to hold it all in place:

Hope this helps!

Looks great! Thanks for sharing.

I've bought some other things from Colemans and found them to be a good place to do business with.

Great idea! Those sealed army boxes are fairly cheap too.

These...http://store.colemans.com/cart/french-m ... -2421.html

edit: I use ammo cans. A fat 50 for the ViaAir and a reg 50 for the metric tools. I have decreased the amount of metric tools to no more than needed to do basic repairs.
I keep some spare parts in a 30 cal box. These are all water tight and fit well into the box on the pinz.

Now that Ive seen how you pack your tools, I'd like to see how you pack your Medical boxes you got from Sporstmans guide to go on the roof.

I don't think you do, Andre. That's where my mother-in-law rides.

If the jack were not in there, would a fourth box fit (I carry my jack behind the passenger seat).
Thanks for the link.

She's off her rocker and soon to be in the box.

Would be pretty funny though, to have a rocking chair up there, kinda like the couch on that Mog at Mogfest.
I could hold it down with bungee cords and have it rocking madly in the breeze with a mannequin sitting on it as I cruise down the road.

Yes, I think you could get in a forth box.
