I just got mine last week and I am going to make a mounting plate that goes on the roof antenna base. I've drawn it up in Autocad, but I'm still rummaging around the shop for a piece of plate to use. I'll post pics when I finish.

Well, I've got a 712 M and I don't really know if there is any better place than in the center of the front roll-bar on the roof. I haven't started building it yet, but I might build some guards to protect it now that you mention that.

I installed mine on the driver's side nose. I am still happy with that location. Scroll down a bit on the link below and you can see pictures. Easy installation. Also, this is a really good time to replace/repair the rubber grommet that protects the main battery/power cable where said cable exits/enters the battery compartment.

Magnets! DJW suggested that for mounting a camera, but it's a great idea for all sorts of things.

Yes. You might try fashioning a mount out of something like these and some hardware. At least you get to move it around until you find the perfect place.

Many different sizes to choose from if those won't work.

No drilling... Not as motile as magnets... but removable... exterior velcro

I used this to hold 4 cell AA battery powered LED lights in the cabin (underneath the roll bar). They have been there for a year now (heat, cold and vibration) and have not yet dropped.

Costco sells a pack of 6 battery powered Cree LED puck lights for under counter use. What makes these neat for the Pinz, is that they are small, bright, light weight and all controlled by a wireless remote. $26.00 or so, and you can add up to 26 pucks still controlled by the same remote.
I put a 3/4 inch neodymium magnet on the base of each puck, put all six under the front roll bar, very secure attachment, yet can easily be moved to where I need light. With one push of the button, I get dazzling light in the cab. Plenty for my aging eyes to check the oil, work in the engine or just impress people in the parking lot by remotely lighting up the truck when I walk up to it. They can also be turned on one at a time by touching the lens if you want a more subdued map light. I've foud these really helpful in these winter months.

I've decided to order a piece of 6" wide aluminum C-channel to make my mount from so it will have protective guards along the sides.
