6'4" in a 710M?

Post by TechMOGogy »

Interested to hear from tall members about fitting in a 710m.
I drove a 710m this past summer but forget/ didn't check things like being able to see a stop light when 1st in line etc.
Thinking about a purchase and just looking for some confirmation (I prefer to drive my Hafi's with the roof off and front window down so I don't look hunched over but that sucks in the rain ;))
Thanks,

You will have problems seeing the traffic light, but otherwise you should fit just fine.

Thanks Shawn
Do you know how much can be gained from a seat conversion - is there an inch or 2 to gain with lower seats?

If the side windows are fitted you have to dip your head even more looking left and right than straight forward.

Most "improved" aftermarket seats are taller so they lose headroom. There are two styles of stock seats, a thicker base and a thinner base. I would bet that most people would prefer the thicker base if they had to use the stock seats; either tended to make my butt tingle after an hour or two in the saddle. Good thing I'm only 5'10"! But even I have to dip my head to see the traffic lights. Then again, I do appreciate not having to use the visor much when the sun is low.

I'm 6' 5", and yes, the Pinze was not designed for those of us who are vertically gifted. I made two modifications that helped: 1. installed better, aftermarket seats, and 2. modified the roll bar protection pads. I installed Corbeau seats on a custom flat pan and gained about 2 valuable inches in height, but more importantly, was able to move the seat back considerably which is much more comfortable. The seats have recliners so I can vary the backrest position and that helps as well. The down side is that it's still a stretch to see traffic lights; a small price to pay in my book, and city traffic is not my main use anyway. Of course, in the summer with the top rolled back, I can see the lights just fine over the top of the windshield! I used to hit my head on the roll bar pads off road, so I first removed them. That helped, but I installed a stereo and placed speakers in them. I then shaved the thick foam off of the pads, installed thin foam, and then covered them in carpeting. Much better now and I have great sounds as well. When you are tall, you get used to little things like moving seats all the way back and also reclining the back portion of the seat back until you appear to be driving from the back seat in many cars.

hmmm - I don't want to be only a fair-weather driver (top and windows off) if I go for the Pinz!
Need someone close to me so I can 'test fit' - may have to try and make time to drive up north this weekend to an owner (I think he has a 710K so not sure if head room, door tops are different?
Thanks for the comments.

I'm 6'5" and drive a 710K. Unless the windshield/roof line is different in an M, I don't think you'll have a problem. I know your traffic lights sit higher than ours (in the UK) but I've never struggled with vision needed for safe driving.

I have the standard seats, and I doubt you'd get much lower than those, without significant metalworking to the cab floor. I know that sort of thing has been canvassed in other threads.

Hope that helps.

I'm 6'5" and it's fine in the Pinz most of the time. Helps you see out to the ground on steep uphills ;)

Mead is very close to me and we are meeting up tomorrow afternoon for a test fit!
Cheers,
Dan

EDIT/UPDATE: in case someone else looks at this thread - answer is a yes but I would either have to duck my head at stoplights or lower the seat to be a bit more comfortable. Looking out the drivers side window is tricky too as the top of it is fairly low as well.
We took the drivers seat out and sitting on the floor pan was a perfect height so a seat of just 2-3 inches would be good (not sure if that is really possible or comfortable but those were the observations).
Fun to meet Mead.
