I have been noticing that my 712 on startups after it has been setting for acouple of weeks that I have to pump the throttle to keep it running for a bit. The other day she would not start at all. I checked the carbs when I pumped the throttle and no gas was shooting down thru the venturas. My question is, what would allow the fuel to drain out of the bowls. Any help on this would greatly be appreciated. :?:

It probably just evaporates if not driven for 2 weeks

I always have to pump a few times to get the bowls full after sitting for awhile. Never thought of it as a problem. For a test leave a little gas in a pan outside and check it in a few days, just nothing there.

This one looks like it might be a good choice if you want to go that way. 24V 4-6 psi max.

I've had good luck with that brand. The price is about right.

I've used Facet fuel pumps for well over 20 years when upgrading Porsches to Weber carbs or replacing a defective pump on a carbureted 911 and they work great! Very quiet and reliable. As I recall, we had to use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator as the stock output was way to high and would flood it out. I remember that we used a Holley inline fuel pressure regulator to get it down to approx. 1.50 psi. there were several available with different adjustment ranges. Does anyone know the ideal fuel pressure range for the stock Pinz carbs and I will look them up and post it.

I'm looking at a couple of these myself :-). Didn't know they made them in 24 vdc and it makes them even more attractive.

Would you leave the existing mechanical fuel pump in place or remove it and install a blanking cover?

This looks to be getting expensive and that the solution is to drive it a bit more often and just pump the pedal a few times...lots cheaper than trying to circumvent the design of the pinz..
Just my humble opinion.

or, get one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pinzgaue ... 2c6c4bf901
Has a 6 cyl and even a Benz emblem on the grille.

Cost not too bad if you suspect you've got a failed or failing pump to deal with.

Choices seem to be rebuilding it (SAV $80 kit)
Or buying a new Pinz pump from SAV for $435
Or their used Pinz pump $125
Or their rebuilt pump for $179
Or a VW pump, but the Beck Arnley ones where you can rotate the top vs the stamped ones are getting difficult to find.

Electric pump for $42 + a $30 regulator does not seem that bad.

Me too last year, and the one I got from them wouldn't fit. The ones where you can unbolt the top and rotate them appear to be unobtainium now.

As one of the posters suggested, the crimped top ones are NFG for a Pinz install. Apparently the one you got is not what they now have?

The one I got is exactly like the one in the pinz. When i went to the desk to order it the pic in their computer showed some pressed together thing but that is not what I got when the order cane in.
I can take this one apart and rotate the top where the inlet and outlet pipes are and it is rebuildable.
I only got this as an emergency spare. I also carry a rebuild kit with the gaskets and such but trying to rebuild one in the middle of nowhere did not sit as well as R&R to get back to civilization.
