Spinning Fan is Deadly Dangerous....

Hi Guys,
Just a heads up reminder. Just spoke with a customer that was sync'ing his carbs. Had his hand resting on the fan housing and lost his footing.
There was not enough left of the 3 missing fingers to re-attach them. That fan can be deadly serious......use caution. The one positive of the situation is it was NOT his thumb or index finger which to a mechanic are the most important digits......
Cheers,
Scott

Sorry to hear this news, but thanks much for posting it.
They're dangerous even if you don't stick your hand in.
FWIW, I've had my fan blade explode while I was driving. It extensively cracked the doghouse, with large shards embedded therein. When I last corresponded with Jake Raby, who to my knowledge is the only guy who balances fan blades, he was unwilling to balance a blade that had any damage due to the danger of it exploding when he spun it.
Frankly, if the doghouse is off and the engine is running for any reason, I always wear protection and keep myself out of the fans radius. I'd even prefer if I could fabricate some sort of shield...

I was fairly sure those things disintegrate as I found parts of the previous one when I was taking off metal to repaint.
