A trip to the shops

At this time of year, especially as Scotland has had such a mild winter (all the snow seems to have gone to N. America) the Pinzgauer sits for a lot of the time. So every so often I like to get it running and go for a wee drive. Today I went to the shops then swimming pool.

Sometimes it is great just to see the faces as you drive down the street and know "I'm driving a Steyr Puch Pinzgauer" :) :D

Not much snow in LA at 26º C,
But almost never see 0... unless a politician is giving a speech

Snow, lovely COOL snow :-)

We've just had a week of low 40's C so I'm a bit 'toasted'.
I've been going to take the 712 out to collect some timber, but I wussed out given the temperature, however it's only 24 today.....perfect Pinny weather :D
.......now where's my jumper, I'm cold.

Up in Canberra we will still be running up to 40 but at least we have four seasons in one year rather than the four seasons in one day like Melbourne does

Yes, a week ago I lost most of the oranges on the trees in my yard as the "polar vortex" came through. Today, I had to mow the grass.

Yep, that's Melbourne, but I kinda like it....Usually if you get a 44C day you know it's going to be cooler tomorrow.
This five days of the same temperature is a bit of a bummer!

Took mine out at New Year for some ski touring access. This is the road from Loch Tay over to Glen Lyon, via Ben Lawers. Lots of dense sugary snow, which had been through a few freeze/thaw cycles. You couldn't get up onto the snow, you had to plow through it, digging trenches. Anything with less ground clearance wouldn't make it, since there was often 18 inches of heavy wet snow under the truck, strong enough to walk on the top of but not drive through. It gave the diff locks a good work out. The tracks you see me in are mine from the way in. Nothing else had made it through, although there were signs of something tracked having been over the pass before the most recent thaw cycle.

A winter without much snow makes me sad. :(

That road never gets ploughed so can have a lot of snow. Had fun with a few cars up there.... I remember driving it in an Audi Quattro once. Must get the Pinzgauer up there one winter.

It’s been a bit strange here also, in November we saw lows of 1-2 degrees and now we’re running between 25 and 40 with less than 8 inches of snow so far compared to the typical 2 – 4 feet. For the last few days we've had fog freezing on the trees. Waiting to see what happens next.

Whether it be global warming or whatever, world weather certainly is going to extremes recently.

A mate of mine sold his 712 some years ago but kept his five aftermarket seats. He said I could have them for the 718 for a favour.
The favour is to take him on a snow trip in the Pinny later this year...... I only hope given the current strange weather patterns, that we get snow this year so I can pay back his kindness! :?
