Steering tube removal, power steering

I have the steering gearbox/shaft/tube assembley out and am contemplating my next step. I am thinking I want to remove the steering tube. I put the unit in my vice and tried to turn it with a strap wrench but the wrench slipped. Has anybody taken one out and can offer tips? It looks like itis just pressed in. I think my next go will involve a bigger strap wrench and some freeze spray on the tube.
