Spare Tre Hangar - Reverse wheel position

I just wanted to post a bit of Andre's work. I hung the hangar,
but my wheels won't be here for a week or so. He did a great
job. Gusseted for strength, well designed. (I know, I need to get
4 new, non-rusted stainless bolts. It's on my to-do list)

I assume this allows the spare tire to be mounted "backwards", so the outside of the wheel is actually facing the outside of the vehicle? If so, it's brilliant. I can't easily check tire pressures on my spare b/c of the stock orientation.

You can check the spare tire pressure provided you remember to turn it so the valve faces up. Then it can be reached from the top of the door when open.

Too bad that the spare hides all that quality work! It's a piece of art in itself.

Here is another way of doing it. Not better or worse, just different. Studs are security type with a matching driver head to prevent theft.

Unit is bright red for visibility while changing tire on highway (besides, I had a batch red to go to powder-coat and I'm cheap)

Nice wheels.
Where did you find them?

Nice solution for a hangar. I like the little tongue thing. It should
stick out just past the lug nuts, like on the original. I found the
original tongue was very helpful so you could lift the wheel into
place and not worry about lining up the holes with the lungs until
it was resting on the tongue. If there was one addition to Andre's
design that I would add, it would be that tongue, like on the original.

Nice hangar. I'm assuming the lock rings are custom?

If it's the same truck, he sold the wheels recently. So I'd guess they're aftermarket wheels, with beadlock rings. ??

bikmakr,
You do nice work.
It might also be nice to have the chain to hold the door open, if you haven't already addressed this need otherwise.

Thanks all. The tongue was necessary because the "studs" are actually bolts not studs, so the wheel can be lifted and just sit there while one bolts it up with the special security driver socket. I have hurt my back several times trying the "thread the needle" while holding up a >100lb wheel on my Landcruisers. About the wheels, they are the GT Pinz wheels 17 x 8.5 with OMF rings. I was able to weld the mounting rings on easily without stripping the paint. Then, bolted up the beauty rings that were painted anthracite color. (fake bead locks...street legal that way). To those that are asking about making some of the tire holders, send me a PM and I'll see if there is enough interest for a short run. If Andre has a laser and a brake, I'll send the flat layout to him gratis.

I'm getting the same GT wheels with a different headlock ... supposed to be here tomorrow. :))))

I'll finally post full pics of my truck once I put them on.

I need one of these for the Gwagen so I can fit a 5gl can back there and maybe a high-lift!

Beautiful solution to a common need. Feel free to build as many as are requested. I have often considered getting a waterjet or plasma cutter to improve my productivity. I just need a more commercially friendly location so I can pay for itself.

I wanted to put that tongue on to help with mounting as I like it as well. I just wasn't sure of the size of the center hole on the rims that were to be mounted on it.
Had the rims and tires been here. I would have been able to make them without the worry of fitment issues.

Again, good job. I like it. Even cost effective.
