But ineffective. It didn't slow down evaporation.

Do you know what banjo bolts they referred to in the paragraph above that photo?

Banjo bolts are the type of fittings used to attach the fuel line to the carb. The fuel line has a large round fitting with a hole through it. A hollow bolt with a hole in the side allows the fuel from the fuel line to go through the bolt into the carb. They do not use clamps. There should be a copper crush washer on each side of the fuel line fitting, which can crush per the article. Tightening the bolt will tighten these washers, which stops the leaks.

Usually copper crush washers are used once then a new one is used for each application. I find that if I put them in the bottom of the oven the heat of baking anneals them to make them soft again for reuse in an emergency, they turn black. I get mine from Napa for the oil and gear plugs, not sure where to get the small ones that would be used for the banjo bolts, if in fact they are a different size...I would try SAV.

To soften work hardened copper washers heat them with a propane torch until red hot and then quench in water. No need for a new one unless damaged.

Of course. I didn't even consider that portion of the carb system. Thanks much

I've used copper in the past just fine but found that the parts book specifies aluminum (01-50-33). After switching to aluminum they seem to seal better.
If I remember correctly they are part # 97725A800 at McMaster $11.35 for 50. Probably at NAPA and others too.

Come to think of it, the last brake caliper I replaced that had a banjo fitting came with aluminum crimp washers. Good point.
