I would be interested also but it appears this may be above my knowledgebase to obtain the correct additional parts.

Just an update on the OD parts. The young machinist has changed shops (He has been hired by Arcelor Mittal Dofasco to their Hamilton, Ont. shop) and is also setting up his own private shop. This has caused some delays but the new rear transmission plate has been cut and looks great. I haven't rushed him but will nudge him this week about when he will get back at it to complete the proof of concept set so I can install and test it. Hopefully we can see these ready for winter project time.
Cheers, Clive

I would also be interested in an OD setup for my 712K
I'm in the process of adding 6 disc brakes to it now..... an OD setup would really set it up nice!
Please keep us updated!
Thanks for the foot work!

There has been a delay as my machinist friend had to relocate the shop mid project. The dust has settle and I hope to have him making more parts this weekend.

Was talking with a friend about overdrives and remembered that the late 80s corvettes had an interesting overdrive box added to the manual transmission - it was built by Doug Nash and is called a Nash 4+3.
Turns out two ratios were available - 0.68 and 0.60 and is basically a small 2 speed auto tranny - same as the Laycock type overdrive but beefier construction?
Several listed on eBay - looks shorter than the Laycock overdrives. Will try to find the actual length.

Seems like it was controlled by a specific program in the Vettes - I guess you could eliminate that and just have a manual switch to engage/disengage it.
Early ones were known to be less durable than later model.
Fun find!

Yes - had a crazy computer control to maximize fuel economy I heard that watched the coolant temp etc. People figured out how to bypass it for full manual control. Can't be used in first gear as it uses an internal hydraulic pump off the output for control. Just another possible somewhat compact option.

Personally, those overdrive ratios are much too tall for the Pinz - the TD tranny overdrive is 0.747 and it is taller than I feel would be best (I'd love a value closer to 0.80). In fact, an 0.80 external overdrive would allow spitting every gear except 4th (which would virtually match 5th w/o overdirve) and give 25-27% increments with each increase, although the higher torque in lower gears may limit how many gears down you can go. Maybe a custom gear set could be made for the Vette OD - it could almost certainly handle more torque than the Laycock.

Those vettes were less than 250hp but torque was a little above 300ft lbs...puny by todays standards but i agree more robust more than likely than the laycock

The Laycock units were used in Aston Martin and Ferrari too.
