Air Conditioning w/ engine driven compressor

Post by kc4mne »

If Steyr made a mount for a Sanden compressor to mount on a Pinz, and a 3 groove pulley that can still be bought today (although expensive). And there are tons of aftermarket evaporator and condensor options out there, why is it that air conditioning is not more popular in the Pinz community?

Has anybody tried this?

Red Bull #2 has a pulley driven a/c. It also has the Socal "monster motor" When you switch on the ac at idle or at speed, the little Sanden compressor makes a "noticable" thud. So, I think the answer is the lack of CHEAP pulleys and mounting brackets, and the lack of excess HP.

I did that very thing, and I like the additional comfort. The issue here is to fabricate a mount and add groove(s) to the original pulley.the rest is just plumbing. BTW,I udes a Red Dot over-cab unit, only issue is it is louder than I would like, thinking of ducting to cut down noise. I managed to be just under $1600 total cost. 8) Mark

Well, here is an affordable idea for you, not only will it work, it is cost effective. Make it like my trigger wheel and instead of teeth, have a ring of alluminum or steel cut to form an extention to the rear of the crank pulley, machine the belt groove into the ring and then align and drill , tap , and bolt the ring to the pulley, around $175-$300 or less

Here is the toothed wheel I have:

I found it at a pick 'n pull near where I live, on the ground. It was in the Ford boneyard, so unless it had a short career as a Frisbee I assume it is a Ford damper.

Some machining to get it to fit...I have not pulled the Pinz pulley to see what it would take to get them to play well together.
