the pinz won't start

Post by krick3tt »

I was installing the winch this morning, finally. It works....but, now the pinz will not start.

When I moved it to the center of the drive there was a small backfire, not anything that cought my attention more than usual. I was in the place at the drive where I had room to work with the doors open, so I turned the pinz off and began work on the winch wiring. Since the amps are less with 24v system I was advised that attaching to the starter and a negative ground would be ok.

I have 24v at the + side of starter solenoid, with the battery key in the 'on' position and the ignition key in the 'on' position I should get voltage across the + and - side of the coil (petronix) but it reads '0'.
There is voltage at the + side of starter and it turns over great, real strong. Aparently there is no spark from the coil. Everything else works, lights, etc.

Thinking I had created a problem with the winch wiring, I detached everything, but still it will not start. I had to put the winch wiring back to get it up the drive out of the way.

What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers,
Morris

There are several smaller wires with large ring terminals that go to the large starter terminal; make certain that all are connected. One of those smaller wires is what carries the power to the rest of the truck.

Best of luck,

Jim,

That was my first thought. That I had perhaps missed one on the hookup. How many should there be? I count four. One from battery (+), one from the radio outlet at the rear wall and two together (red) from? Also there is a wire to the Plus side of the coil, it is very dirty but it has a white stripe. It appears to be loose at the radio supressor. Let me retighten it and see what happens.
