AMB box for sale on e-bay

Post by Wayne Roberts »

I was looking and found this on e-bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ambulanc ... enameZWDVW

Has anyone tried to shorten one of these to fit into a M? I have looked at one before and I believe that the box is fiberglass, without any metal studs in the middle of the walls. It would not be that big of a deal to remove the section and resecure it back together. I camp in mine a lot and would like the extra room. I am concerned about the weight. Any thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks for any input.

I'm not certain, but I believe that there are some aluminum or steel framework internal to the fiberglass (there must be to anchor the lifting eyes at the top, at least). Running over mine with a stud finder shows that there is other stuff in there.

I'm guessing that they weigh in at about 13-1500 lbs; if a 712 weighs in at 5300 lbs, then mine with box and stuff in it (say another 2-300 lbs) weighs 6900 lbs from a truck scale. Of course, if you strip an M of the rear roll bar, sides, back, and door then you might actually GAIN several hundred pounds for the box weight.

But I can say that they are pretty well made boxes.
