Kinda reminds me of a certain vehicle we drive -- linkage from the gas pedal to carbs, releasing fuel, ignited by crank rotation, through clutch and gearbox, through all those gears and shafts, to the wheels, just to pull some dumb schmuck's lifted SUV out of the snowbank...
