Can't set float level

Post by SDPintheLBC »

I hope somebody can help with this - I'm going on a trip Wed and I need to get this thing running.

I've been trying to cure an intermittent problem of rough running and I think I've traced it to float level.

I'm trying to set the float level which I've done several times before and now I can't do it. Just when I think I've got it, it drops. I'll let it idle and watch the level, gas it a couple of times, watch it, then it slowly drops and stalls. Other times it rises very slowly and runs nice. I've tried many combinations of shims and I'll find a combo that give me a perfect level, good running and then the level drops for no reason - just on the front carb - I guess that was my problem, not enough fuel in the front carb and trying to run off the back one, sputtering and back-firing - then the next day everything's fine.

Can the float valve be bad intermittently?

Thanks,
Mark

OK, thanks Jim. :D

Is this part available at NAPA? If not, who would be a good source to get it overnighted to SoCal?

Thanks,
Mark
