Strarting problems

Post by IwanaPinz »

Hey everyone,
OK my first problem.
My 712 sat for four days in cold weather. Last Thursday during our east coast snow storm, it started with no problems.
This morning it sounded like it wanted to start, it even caught a few times, but never long enough to start running.
I did my usual starting procedure, choke on, pump a few times, and press the starter button.
Now it just chugs and gives no hint of catching.
I have added an additive to the fuel to get rid of any moisture. Still no start.

I want to pull the plugs to check and se if I fouled one but I can't seem to find the right size socket. I'll keep working on that solution.

Thanks

Have you checked your air filter for ice.

I found that if the batteries were low I would not get enough RPM to get it to turn over fast enough to catch. Since I bought new ones, this has not been a problem.

Yahoo, I got it started! :D

1. Checked air cleaner, no signs of condensation or ice.
2. I have the civilian ignition.
3. Batteries, good question I believe I have OEM batteries.
A friend suggested a battery maintenance device, something that would keep the charge up during long inactive periods.
Any thoughts on this?

Jay I did not remove the cap. Once I got it started I was happy again.

Use several of them cars I have with great luck. I assume someone makes a 24 volt unit. If not you will have to disconnect the tie line and use two 12 volt units.

Battetry Minder is the product you want. 12V only so yes you will have to remove the battery tie cables to use them.
Make sure your acid levels are within proper level (if using standard top off type batteries). The Battery Minder has a chipset that monitors total charge and when it is correct it uses pulse technology to actively "de-sulphite" the plates reducing the build up on the plates.
They work very well and I have had excellent results using one for over six years now.
