tranny issues
Drove the 710 home last night with no problems. When the wife got in it to go shopping she could not get it into reverse or 1st. I assume one of the shifting forks must be out of place. Is there any other reason. The shifter linkage moves freely and moves the outside shaft up but will not move into the reverse or 1st gears.
Thanks
Thanks

Hey Mike...Dennis just posted something about this a few weeks back, don't know if this will solve your issue but here is the link to the post:

I am going to look into it in the morning. The truck only sits overnight and a few hours during the day. I bought the truck a few months ago but have only been driving it now for about a month. I don't know the history but have changed all the fluids not long ago and they looked fine. The level is good and the oil in the Tranny is the same I use in my 712, which I have a bunch of miles on. I am certainly going to entertain Dennis' idea and will take pics if this turns out to be the problem.

If you do have a stuck plunger, all you merely have to do is raise the floor plate and remove the plunger assy that is screwed into the tower.
If you then drop the external link off the top at the same time, you can then reach down and grap the shifter assy as a whole. By lifting it up you will be able to see if the selector shaft telescopes into the tower housing. Should it slide completely in then, try to operate the shifter rod fore and aft . It should allow you to select a gear. If no joy then its inside the tower or in the box proper.
If you suspect its in the box, pull one of the Ist /Rev pivots out. The one at the top of the case is the easiest to get at. Should both be broken and have slipped the selector fork will be "waggling around and doing nowt" in the box.
Best of luck

The shifting tower works freely with no issues.

The block which should move back and forth to engage 1st/rev only moves a fraction of an inch.

I am assuming the pivot pins are those under the small plates held by the 10mm bolt. If memory serves correctly I read somewhere the pins are attached to the plates, or at least they are supposed to be.

Did you remove BOTH pins?
The one the underside is a bit difficult to get at and may also be sheered off. By the way the selector fulcrum will operate with one pin in good condition but it can cause early failure of ther good 'un.
Glad you found the problem.
