Fuel Pump Pics

Post by PinzEOD »

Here's a few pics from my recent fuel pump rebuild.
Image Image
Pump was pretty dirty and showed signs of weeping. Cleaned and ready for tear-down.

Top membrane cover off. Main pump membrane exposed.

Cover, spring, lever and axle removed. Old membrane dirty but in pretty good shape.

Here you can see the axle is grooved a bit, I have a new one on the way. The rebuild kit is very complete.

Another straightforward project. Re-assembly is the reverse of assembly.

Question on the second row of pictures, the one on the right. Note the plastic plug inside the shiny round insert, upper housing. Is that a hole, or just a reflection? Or maybe dirt? That part isn't included in the kit if defective.
Here's a tip on re-assembly. Remove the small panel on the lower housing, and use a screwdriver to hold upward tension on the rocker arm. This allows you to line up the 6 holes MUCH easier when inserting the screws for the upper housing.

Nice post Mike....Actually the last couple that you posted are sure to help, For those that are not aware you can copy a web page to a file on your computer for use later. There may be many ways of doing this but the easiest way I've found is with Adobe Acrobat (full version, not the free reader only version)

Also don’t forget to check and clean the fuel screen located inside the large brass screw cap.

I think that's the outlet port for the fuel. All the internal grunge on my pump was on the main membrane, and like Miles said, that screen thingie. Good tip on the alignment.
