Oil question

Post by Oberon »

I have a little red sticker by my oil fill tube that says SAE 30 oil. Just wondering what weight some of you other guys are running?

Depending on climate, 10-40wt, to 20-50wt(I use 20-50 here in Ca.)
Just stay away from synthetics as they tend to clean the old oil seals and promote leaks .

so I take it that 20w50 would be for the summer here in Michigan, and then maybe 10w40 the rest of the year?

They are not swiss time pieces. Any quality oil will do the job. If you have real concerns just use what is used by the local VW people. I use 20/50 here but it seems that almost every pinz owner uses something different with no reported ill effects.
Keep it changed and use quality oils and filters.
