Door Pins

Post by Hawkeye Pinz »

Hello all, I remember seeing something here ( pre-hack ) about removing the oem door pins and putting in PTO type pins to make removing the entire door faster. Found the new pins no sweat, but I'm having a tough time removing the factory pins  . Any ideas to make this easier?

lots and lots of penetrating oil, then lots more, followed by a BFH (the only time a BFH is needed on a Pinz)

Mine came out real nice, just let soak in penetrating for an hour, then tapped out with a punch and BFH.

Door Pins

"Mine came out real nice, just let soak in penetrating for an hour, then tapped out with a punch and BFH."

I was not so fortunate...I had to soak mine for about 3 weeks!! (I'm not exagerrating!!)...several types of penetrant, BFH...the works...nothing seemed to budge them.

I ended up removing the doors, placing the hinge into a large vise to hold the door steady, then applying said BFH. The end result was what I wanted, but the hinges were slightly out of alignment when I went to attach them to the body again!

In short, be careful with using the BFH...you'll just cause yourself more work! There is a small amount of adjustment on the hinges, but you have to remove the door panels to get at them.

DOOR PINS

First, I tried to remove them without the oil...not a fun adventure.
Then, the penetrating oil, it sat while I did other things for about an hour, maybe more. I had to use a punch on the last rusted one. The first three came out with a little pounding.
It does make for a great ride, going without the doors. But, what to do with them on the trail....

Cheers,

Yeah Morris I second that. What do you do with the doors once they're off? I kind of remember somebody making a rack to store the doors in the back of the truck. Can anybody here provide any further details of this great idea?

A always remove the 4 big screws that hold each door on. It takes about 2 minutes, and there is zero chance of damage.
