On the road again!

Post by todds112 »

Got the fuel pump rebuild kit today and installed it. Still couldn't get it to start. I finally thought that the pump might need primed. So I carefully sucked gas through into the pump via the fuel line that goes into the carbs. After several more revolutions she finally caught and ran. Even though the pump was slightly damaged it the failure it seems to work fine. I'm ordered one the Beck Arnley VW ones also. I'll keep it as a spare.

Played with the carbs again and got what sounds like a nice even idle. I'm only at 1 turn out on all 4 screws. Hope that's not too lean, but it sounds the best there. Not sure on the idle speed, don't have a tach. Again, playing it by ear it sounds ok. High enough the charge light doesn't come on, but it doesn't seem to be racing.

Anyway, glad she's running again, especially since I just sold my Jeep and don't have a company car while on injury leave. She's my daily driver! :D

You are about right on the mixture screws at your altitude.

If you are on the weak side you will get some popping on the overun in the exhaust. maybe even the odd exhaust backfire. (providing the exhaust is gas tight!)

I am an idiot and bought another one. I take delivery next week. would have been easier just to keep yours! I will be fitting 35.5 x 11 bias ply Buckshots to my new one shortly along with a new paint job it looks like.

Excellent, no popping, running great. I did notice the tail pipe had built up some black soot on it, so it was probably too rich before.

Thanks.
