Soft top removal

Post by andy »

I have been trying to remove the top over the cab on my Pinz. The corners are weathered and it is extremly tight, particularily on the windshield corners. I am afraid to pry it off or force it since it is not ripped and so far is still water tight. Any expreiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andy

Andy, First remove the top brace that goes between the windshield and the roll bar. It is held in by a pin at each end. After that the windshield can be pushed back a little and that will give you some free space to work with. Be carefull with the top as you said that it is getting brittle. Try and start to remove the top over the hoops in the middle of the truck. It will also get you a little more room to work with.

It helps to have the truck sitting out in the sun for a while too. The heat makes the top a bit more pliable. BTW, SAV recently got a few new tops in, I finally gave up on my old sun baked veteran and bought a new one. I'm in the habit now of removing both the front and rear tops though the summer, they just don't seem to hold up well to our summer sun and 100+ degree temps. For the hot season, I use a gravel cover and camo netting.

I got the link to the SAV tops from Wayne. That might be an option. Right now I need to spend some money on the carbs and probably a boot or two first. I appreciate your input on this. Thanks, Andy

Gents as these tops get tighter (to get that is!) I have discovered a potential manufacturer overseas who has sent me samples of the material for evaluation.
From what I can see the "canvas swatch " is a pukka copy of the original.
If someone wants to order the first one to see how it fits i will forward the details. By the way the price is likely to be about $1500 for a 710M.
