New (Cab) Top Tips?????

I have 'bit the bullet" and ordered a new top for the cab on my 710. Now, are there any tricks, tips, suggestions, ideas, etc. to make the installation easy?

I'm not really a 'car guy', my PINZ is my 'ranch vehicle' with occasional runs into town. I have to 'off road' during the rain, snow, and mud seasons just to get to the ranch. So any and all tips are welcome.

I know that I will probably catch a little flack from this but I use a small line of silicone sealant on the roll bar to insure that the water would not come through the holes at the bolts. My trip to Co proved this to work very well. I also did the same thing on my 710 top. I ended up with two new cab tops and they sure make rolling the canvas back a lot nicer. I would however recommend some weather stripping on the windshield frame as mine both leak when doing highway speeds in driving rain. The water comes up between the windsheild frame and the canvas. This is probably only necessary until the top shrinks a little.

Yeah, what Mike said. I also put a length of that split-foam pipe insulation on the support bar to snug it up a bit.

Can't agree more with the two Mikes, both suggestions work great, I would also put some sort of insalation in the top, I used an outdoor rubber based RV/Marine carpet I got ar Costco for about $25.00 for a roll or 10'x10', cut a piece about the size of the cab and removed the front, slipped the carpet in (upside down) and then proceeded to cut slits for the tabs on the windshield, carpet went to about a half inch over the roll bar and I used some 1"x1/8" flat bar stock cut to length to act as bows fore and aft to keep the carpet in place, (pics can be posted if you want them) I also made similar carpet pieces for the rear canvas for winter as it helps with heating and the best thing is, no condensation raining down on you after a snow fall.

Well here are a few pics of my top insulation job, I recently reinstalled my carpet for winter, again and added a few pieces of the foam antifatigue mats for extra noise and hopefully cold insulation, there are 2 pics of the cab and a few of the rear, I used 2 different sizes of flat iron that I painted a color similar to the carpet, and I still have to zip tie all the bars to the spreader bars so they dont move around on me.

Road noise has dropped by 40% or more, no condensation in the winter at all and it has helped the old pinz heater quite a bit, this carpet is rubber backed polyester and wont mold or mildew and can be hosed clean.

Forgot that I added some anti-fatigue mats for insulation, sound and heat here is the floor with the same mats:

Very nice set-up indeed. I like the way you fit those interlocking mats into the bed. To save me the math headache, how many pieces did it require?

That would be 10 tiles, cut 6" short and cut to fit around the trans hump, I also installed the tile edges and duct taped the back along each seam to keep it all together.

I got a smoking deal on my tiles, they are usually $7.00 for 4 at the local pepboys and I got 26 for $9.00 at a local discount store, so I have extra, which I put 8 in the rear roof above the carpet, and have a few left over for maybe doing the cab, but we will see.

Also I tried you suggestion on using mop-n-glow on the top and it works great, just one thing how do yo keep from getting the waxie build up?

Tis the beauty of MopNGlo, when you wipe it fresh, it pulls up the old (supposedly).

Thanks, everyone. I got the new top from Swiss Army Vehicles, it looks great. I hope to install it this weekend.
Does the Mop & Glow help retard the UV fading??

The fading bit is a good question. I haven't been using it long enough to have an answer for that. Since it's an indoor product, there's probably no 'designed' UV inhibitors, but anything is better than nothing, unless the product has magnification qualities.

I would suppose we will get a yellowing to some extent, I recall when I used said mop-n-glow on floors in the past the areas that got sun did tend to yellow some, hopefully they got some UV inhibitors going, also on the build up question I posed before, the floors I used the stuff on had to be stripped every couple of months and reapplied so I will watch my tops and see what needs attention.

I wonder if it has the same effect that baby oil has on tanning... magnifying the sun and accelerating the deteriation of the skin. I just park in the shade.
