The wind blew today, anyone need free firewood?

Well I get woken up at 2:30am to "Honey, do you know theres a tree on the front porch?"
So.........

To make things worse, the tree holding up the tree that fell on the house was itself falling over. Oh and the power was also out all day preventing use of implements of destruction on hand.
So off I go to the hardware store for rope, nails(for the 1/3rd of the garage roof that peeled off), and some screws, gone 15 min and I get back and part of the tree on the corner (at least 2 tons worth)has mashed my fence.


Took 4 1/2 hours to get it off the roof
So I got wood , just bring a chainsaw.

sorry to hear about the damage but on the lighter side if you watch the news here half of Ca is firewood

I'm sorry you lost that tree--I remember it as being a good source of shade for your front area. The upside (if you choose to see it that way) is that you now have more area for your Haflinger/Pinzgauer proving ground.

Looks like it may have the payload of a Ranger.

Haffy's have a factory payload of 515 kg (1133 lbs) which is more than a lot of small utes!
I've carried a metal guilitione on mine which weighed closer to 700 kg and althought it made the vehicle a bit precarious on corners the weight itself wasn't a problem. (The only drivetrain mod my 700 Haffy has, is factory optional heavy duty coils and bilsteins all-round)

BTW...Have you guys got any LWB 703's in the US? .... to my knowledge they were never "officially" imported!

Opp's....Condolences on the loss of the house!

Usually after bushfire season here, the 4WD Clubs swing into action and help out with the cleanup of properties, tracks and in general just where-ever needed.

A couple of years ago we were up Wulgulmerang area and the whole place was burnt...hardly a building left standing.
There was an old farmer we were helping out by rebuilding fences etc but his house and barn had been totally destroyed and we asked him what he was going to do.
His reply was that he had been planning on "remodelling" the house for years but had never got around to it, but now he had no excuse not to do it!
The resilience, spirit and guts of some people is amazing

Ouch, hope you have good insurance, and hopefully when you rebuild you can make the house(and garage) the place of your dreams.

Jim couldn't get insurance for that house... it was in a high risk fire area.

Because he was renting the place, and not an owner, so far he's getting a bit of a run around. Of course it's not the government's responsibility to take care of him, he's a grown man and knew the risks involved in living in a wooded mountain area.

On the other hand, it's interesting to hear the stories around town of homeowners who have recieved checks as high as $500,000 already to rebuild their homes while renters are literally left out in the cold.
