712 Ambulance interior mesurements

Post by Jim Molloy »

Hello to all,

Recently the local fire districts asked to use my 1976 Volvo TGB11 to: 1) transport a cardiac patient stranded in t snohew beyond the reach of their vehicles and 2) extract both a full size ambulance and a four door Suburan from the snow. The Volvo performed both duties without difficulty. I have no problem with our vehicles being used as "on call" units in this regard.

This situation now has me considering the purchase of either a Pinzgauer 712 Ambulance or a Volvo TGB 6x6 Ambulance to be used as a mobile clinic as well. What I currently need are the interior dimensions of the 712 Ambulance box. Thanks for any information provided.

Take care,

Jim,
I don't know the amb dimensions off hand but it's the exact same size as the rear of the Pinz and tall enough for most people to stand in. So, 10 feet long probably, 5.5 feet wide and probably 5'10 inside would be pretty close. I think the Volvo amb looks a lot bigger to me.

David,

Thanks for the information and the link. For those interested in the comparison, someone just posted this link on one of the Volvo lists.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Volvo303/files/

While there are other subtle differences, it appears the main difference is overall length with the Volvo being 28" deeper.

Thanks for the help.

Take care.
